12. Eilean Donan Castle
Found on an island at a point where three sea lochs meet, this iconic attraction also happens to be one of the single most photographed castles in Scotland. The original version of the castle was built at this location way back in the 13th century. It is quite understandable, then, that at least four different iterations have been built and re-built since. The current version of the fortification visitors are able to see today was re-opened in 1932 after a two-decade-long restoration period.
