10. Kilchurn Castle
Built on a small, rocky isthmus at the tip of Loch Awe near Dalmally in Argyll, one would be correct in saying there are but few more scenic castles in all of Scotland compared to Kilchurn. Erected by the powerful Campbell clan, who exercised control over much of western Scotland in the late medieval period, it is just one of many fortifications that owe their existence to the famed clan. We recommend going for the view from the top; gazing over Loch Awe while standing on the tower house’s battlements is a sight unlike any other.
