8. Craigievar Castle
The setting of this entry on the list of fairytale castles you must visit in Scotland is among scenic rolling foothills of the Grampian Mountains. In other words, this fort, which served as the seat of Clan Sempill, can be found about 10 kilometers south of Alford, Aberdeenshire. This pinkish, harled-style castle can be said to boast a typical fairytale appearance due to its high corbelling work, gargoyles and finely sculpted multiple turrets, all of which sit in contrast to its massive lower story structure. Completed in 1626, it is an excellent example of the original Scottish Baronial architecture.
