6. California Academy of Sciences
In addition to being a multifaceted museum, the California Academy of Sciences is also an architectural marvel. The sustainably designed state-of-the-art green building boasts a 2.5-acre Living Roof. The roof was specifically designed and constructed to match the rolling hills and natural surroundings of the area, and is covered with native plants.
The walls are largely made of glass, the soil acts as a natural insulator, and the roof is also where electricity-generating solar panels are located. Located in Golden Gate Park, this giant among attractions in San Francisco is actually home to a rainforest, aquarium, planetarium, natural history museum and so much more.
