5. Lombard Street
Although many enjoy calling Lombard Street the “crookedest street in the world,” that’s, unfortunately, not true. When talking about attractions in San Francisco, Lombard Street is certainly one of the more famous ones. Yet, officially, the crookedest street in the city is actually Vermont Street.
But, be that as it may, Lombard Street can be found between Leavenworth and Hyde Streets. Containing no less than 8 hairpin turns, the one-block segment of this iconic San Francisco feature was actually designed to reduce the naturally steep slope of the hill. In fact, the speed limit here is just 5 miles per hour (8 km/h).
