8. Painted Canyons
If we’re talking about one-of-a-kind California hikes you’ll ever get the chance to go on, the Painted Canyons one is rightfully way up there. This has mostly to do with the fact that we’re talking about a ladder hike (meaning, you’ll actually have to climb ladders to complete the route).
Easily found about an hour southeast of Palm Springs, the San Andreas Fault is to be thanked for forming the refreshingly cold, yet narrow gorge that is the home of this adventure. The name comes from the greens, browns, grays, reds and pinks on the walls, which are particularly impressive when you first enter the canyon. Quite an experience, we tell you.
