8. The Punakha Dzong Monastery in Bhutan
Located at the confluence of the Mo Chhu (mother) and Pho Chhu (father) rivers in the Punakha-Wangdue valley in Bhutan, the palace of great happiness, the Punakha Dzong Monastery is one of the largest monasteries in Asia.
The second largest and second oldest Dzong (fortress) in Bhutan, the Punakha monastery is one of the most stunning and beautiful edifices in the country with whitewashed walls towering over the lush forest and a spectacular mountainscape. A significant part of the Tibetan religious faith on Buddhism, the Punakha Dzong Monastery is an amazing cultural experience.
