Although the country is not exactly famous for its fairytale-like castles, the Nobility of Romania has made sure it left a lasting footprint throughout history by building numerous palaces, mansions and impressive residences with a royal flair. Unfortunately, many such beautiful and valuable edifices were left to parish during the nationalization efforts of the Communist era. However, quite a few such buildings survived and should be on everyone’s list of must-see attractions whilst visiting Romania.
We’ve put together a compilation of some of the most impressive castles and palaces which are still well-maintained to this day and can be visited by the general public.
I love this list. Although Romania’s castles and fortresses may not be as opulent or don’t have an intricate architecture, I think that at least some of them are seriously underrated, especially when considering when and how they were built. Thanks for sharing.
