7. The Odeon of Herodes Atticus in Athens, Greece

An architectural marvel representing ancient Greek culture and heritage, the Odeon of Herodes Atticus is a magnificent stone theater located on the southwest slope of the Acropolis of Athens. Constructed in AD 161 by a rich Roman Herodes Atticus as a memorial for his wife, Regilla.

With a seating capacity of 5000, the theater was used a music concert venue establishing the fact that music was indeed a part of ancient Greek cultural and social life. The theater was completely ruined in 267 AD, however, it was restored centuries later between 1950 and 1961. Today, it serves as a venue for drama, dance and music performances during the famous Athens Festival.
