2. Ta Prohm Temple in Angkor, Cambodia
Representing the glorious past and rich cultural heritage of Cambodia, Ta Prohm temple in Angkor is more than just an architectural gem of the past. Originally known as Rajavihara or the Monastery of the King, Ta Prohm was a Buddhist temple construction of which began in 1186. The rare inscriptions on the temple give insights about the people who lived within the temple premises or were dependent on it.
Nearly 80000 people maintained the temple which included 615 dancers and 2700 officials. The most atmospheric and photogenic of all Angkorian temples, Ta Prohm presents an interesting picture with a mysterious surrounding of a jungle and trees growing out of the temple ruins. A UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its cultural significance. it is also one of the most visited complexes in the Angkor region of Cambodia.
