3. La Tomatina—Buñol, Spain
However crazy it may sound, La Tomatina is not just an amazing festival, but something that you would wish to be a part of every year. Held in Buñol, Spain La Tomatina is celebrated on the last Wednesday of August by throwing ripe, squashed tomatoes at each other. It started in 1945 after a skirmish between a few young men and the people participating in the Giants and Big-Heads figures parade. By the sheer chance, a market stall of vegetables fell victim to the angry crowd who began pelting vegetables at each other. The very next year, some of the young men brought tomatoes from home and threw them at each other and hence, La Tomatina was born. Today, it is not just loved by the locals immensely but is also counted as one of the most amazing festivals in the world.
