9. Field Museum of Natural History
This museum is one the more respected in its field (pun intended). It was founded in 1893 to showcase artifacts gathered for the World Columbian Exposition. Its name was changed in honor of Marshall Field, a wealthy benefactor and mall owner, in 1905. There are about 20 million artifacts for a wide range of interests here, like anthropology, botany, geology and zoology. It has amazing displays on Ancient Egypt and the cultures of Pre-colonial South, Central and North America. It also has the world’s most complete dinosaur skeleton; a Tyrannosaurus Rex named “Sue,” as well as special rotation visits all-year round.
