5. Benares (Banaras) Hindu University
One of the largest residential universities in Asia, Banaras Hindu University or BHU was established in 1916 and has been a center of learning for almost a century now.
Located on the banks of Ganges in the southern part of the city, BHU is spread across an area of 1300 acres. The spacious tree-lined campus houses a museum called Bharat Kala Bhavan which has a great collection of sculptures, palm-leaf manuscripts from the 12th-century, local history exhibitions, and miniature paintings.
