10 Ways to Make Your Varanasi Trip Truly Memorable

1. Evening Prayer at Dashashwamedh Ghat

The most famous and probably the oldest Ghat of Varanasi, Dashashwamedh Ghat is close to Kashi Vishwanath temple and is popular for an age-old tradition of Agni Pooja or Worship of Fire performed every evening by a group of priests.

This evening Aarti (prayer) is dedicated to Hindu lord Shiva, Sacred River Ganga, the Gods of Sun and Fire and also the entire universe. It is believed that the Ghat was created by Hindu God Brahma to welcome Lord Shiva. As per the belief, 10 horses were sacrificed during a Yajna called Dasa Ashwamedha, hence the name Dashashwamedh Ghat.

With the sweet smell of incense and the earthen lamps, the sound of cymbals and chanting of mantras in a chorus, this Ghat presents a magnificent and unique sight that’s going to last long in your memories. It is also one of the most popular tourist attractions in Varanasi.
