6. Place des Vosges
One of the finest and oldest city squares in Paris, Place des Vosges was constructed between 1605 and 1612. An outstanding architectural group of arcaded seventeenth-century buildings with slate roofs and large windows, the square is also regarded as the first royal city plan in Europe. The square was designed around four symmetrical fountains and a mounted statue of Louis XIII. If you don’t already know it, here’s an interesting piece of information for you. After a few earliest houses in Paris which were constructed with bricks, the rest were built of wood and plaster which were painted to look like bricks.
