3. Arc de Triomphe
The only monument which can compete with the Eiffel Tower as a symbol of Paris is Arc de Triomphe. Located on the right bank of Seine, this magnificent victory arc was designed in 1806 by French architect Jean Chalgrin in 1806 to honor those who died in the Napoleonic Wars and French Revolution fighting for France. The victory arc was inaugurated in 1836. It has the names of all French generals and great victories of the country inscribed on it. However, the most famous of them all is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier from World War I which lies beneath its vault. Regarded as an iconic landmark and monument, Arc de Triomphe is a must-visit Paris site.
