3. Valletta fortifications walk
The Knights of Malta built the fortified town of Valletta on a barren peninsula guarded by water from all side except a narrow landward that connected the city to the mainland. The idea was to keep the Ottoman Turks at bay. An impressive military architecture made Valletta impregnable and nobody dared to invade it for 200 years. Today the fortification is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Malta. It is an easy one-kilometer circular walk that you are surely going to enjoy it. The ideal point to start the walk is the City Gate and reach up to the tip of the peninsula where Fort St Elmo, the only edifice here that predates Valletta and a crucial player in the Great Siege.
