1. Palace of the Shirvanshahs
A tourist cannot miss one of the pearls of Azerbaijan’s architecture – the Palace of the Shirvanshahs. The Palace is in fact an entire ensemble of historic monuments part of the UNESCO World Heritage List of Historical Monuments. One of the most important components of the complex, which is also a symbol of Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, is the Maiden Tower. One can explore from a 28-meter height the Palace after climbing this mysterious and beautiful Tower. Why mysterious? Well, because, until now, there is no consensus on the time, purpose, and even origin of the name of this architectural structure of unique form.
