10. Pietrapertosa (Basilicata)
Part of an Italian association that lists down small historical and artistic towns in the country called ‘I Borghi più Belli d’Italia’ (The most beautiful villages in Italy), Pietrapertosa is a village built entirely on a rock. Although origin of the village is uncertain, there’s an ancient castle which is dated back to the time of Roman occupation. The entire town is pretty much along the main road that leads to the castle. Located east of Castelmezzano, this scenic hilltop town is widely regarded as the highest and one of the most beautiful towns in all of Basilicata. For adventure seekers, there’s high-altitude, high speed zip line called the Flight of the Angel that connects Castelmezzano with Pietrapertosa.
