2. Dresden
In Dresden, visit one of the oldest Christmas markets from Germany – Striezelmarkt. This market is special for its Dresdner Stollen – a giant cake that is cooked on the Saturday before the second Advent Sunday. It is ceremoniously sliced up later and sold for a symbolic price. The money usually goes to charity.
Here, you will also find traditional wooden Christmas decorations like nutcracker figurines, Christmas-candle pyramids, Räuchermänner (“smoking men” incense burners), as well as decorative candle holders. At this authentic Christmas market, you will definitely find something among those almost 250 stands that will make you exclaim “Wow!”.
