5. Castello di Buonconsiglio, Trent
Buonconsiglio is also marked by a rather grim series of events as it has been linked to the Vatican and the Council of Trent. Despite having been primarily built around a 13th-century castle, the palace you will be able to visit these days is an expansion influenced by the Italian Renaissance.
Rumor has it that the inhabitants of the castle could escape in the event of a catastrophe using the secret passage that would lead to the local cathedral. While the exterior was influenced by gothic architecture, the decoration in the palace was created by the Batista brothers and Girolamo Romanino, the latter having frescoed the loggia in the Lions’ Court.
