1. Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area
Formed by the river itself and following its course as it cuts through the Cascade Mountain Range, this national scenic area is one of those places every Oregonian will proudly mention when asked what the best thing is about their state. And indeed, known for its majestic views and numerous waterfalls, the star of the gorge is by far the second highest waterfall in the country – the legendary and awe-inspiring Multnomah Falls. Camping facilities and a range of biking and hiking trails are on offer for visitors, though we’d argue that Multnomah Falls alone is reason enough to call this gorge one of the best places to visit in Oregon.
