Day 3 in Florence
Improve your spiritual life!
Visit the Refectory “Last Supper of Sant’Apollonia” – the first Renaissance refectory in Florence, created in 1445. Few people know about this sacred place, so it is usually not crowded and silent here. What the travelers are missing is an entire wall (9,75 x 9,10 m) covered with vibrant colors of Andrea del Castagno’s masterful Last Supper.
There is enough place for everybody in Basilica Santa Croce, because it is the largest Franciscan church from Florence. Situated in the Piazza Santa Croce, it is also well-known for its Florentine artworks and the graves of Michelangelo, Galileo and Machiavelli. But the most notable characteristic of the Basilica is its 16 chapels, many of them decorated with frescoes of Giotto and his disciples. Among the artists whose works are present in the church are also: Antonio Canova, Donatello, Agnolo Gaddi, Giovanni da Milano, but also Henry Moore, who contributed with the statue of a warrior in Chiostro Primo.
Before your “last supper” in Florence, head to the Cascine Park for some fresh air. The park is located on the right bank of the Arno river and is the largest one from Florence.
At last, have a meal to remember in a high-end restaurant found in a palace that dates from 1200. We are talking about the Palace Tornaquinci on via delle Seggiole. Enjoy the local environment and taste the finest Florentine cuisine that will make you return to this Italian Eden.
