Santiago

The second largest city of the Dominican Republic—Santiago de Los Caballeros or Santiago of the Gentlemen—was founded by the 30 Spanish noblemen in the year 1495. Today, the city is a hub of the country’s agricultural riches with the tobacco and sugar cane fields. Calmer than the capital city, Santo Domingo, Santiago is lively enough in Calle del Sol to attract an impressive number of tourists round the year.
