6. Acadia National Park, Maine
Covering a surface of 47,000 acres, Acadia National Park is the only national park located in the state of Maine. However, don’t let this fact lead you to the conclusion that it’s not worth visiting. Similar to Yosemite National Park, Acadia is also among the best national parks in America, in addition to boasting several superlatives of its own.
For instance, it is the first national park in the country to have an endowed trail system. The tallest peak on the Atlantic Coast, Cadillac Mountain, has a home here, and Acadia is also the oldest national park east of the Mississippi. The 4.4-mile round-trip trek to the top of Cadillac Mountain on the North Ridge Trail is also THE crown jewel of eastern U.S. hiking adventures, by the way.
