5. Palermo
No list of the best tourist attractions in Sicily that’s remotely serious would ever exclude a town as rustic and quaint as Palermo from its mandatory itinerary. Why? Well, how about because its history dates back around 2,700 years? Or because its breathtaking architecture and gardens had earned it the nickname “City of Delights” at one point? Historic churches and excellent museums still exist in this city founded by the Phoenicians, though it’s more famous today for loud street markets. If you’re visiting, make sure to check out Catacombe dei Cappuccini. You’ll see what we mean.

It’s mind-boggling to me that I spent two months in Sicily and still missed almost half of the places in this post. For a little island, it sure has a LOT of must-see places. Great list! It looks like I’ll have to go back to Sicily and see some more (such a chore).
