10 Secret European Little Towns You Must Visit

3. Marsaxlokk, Malta

Hop onto a bus from Valletta, the capital city of Malta and in no later than 30 minutes be prepared to come face-to-face with one of the most vibrant and colorful sights of your life. Welcome to Marsaxlokk—a picturesque fishing village located southeast of Malta. The wooden fishing boats called ‘Luzzu’ painted in all possible bright hues of green, red, yellow and blue reflecting colors in the azure sea by the bay and old low-rise traditional houses for a backdrop, Marsaxlokk is a photographer’s delight. The café lined alleys without any traces of modern buildings make this quaint little European gem one-of-its-kind destination. Don’t look for history in this stunning little fishing hamlet because there aren’t any remains visible here. Just relax and enjoy the beauty of this place which still has its old world charm intact—a rare phenomenon in today’s world. Don’t miss the weekly fish and souvenir market on Sunday if you wish to experience or have a glimpse of the local way of life.

Good list, but would´t call every city a “secret” Sintra, Reine, Hallstatt and specialy Manarola is VERY touristy.

Agree with Chris; seeing Manarola as the first ‘Secret’ little town immediately invalidates the post. It receives over ten times the amount of visitors it can cope with and still has some of its trails closed to protect it from the volumes of tourists that arrive every day,

Oh my goodness I love this post! I’m going to be studying abroad in France in the spring and blogging about it! I can’t wait to visit some of these places, especially since some are close to where I will be staying!!
