3. Tower of London
Having served the majority of its life as a prison, which is to say, from 1100 to the mid-twentieth century, the Tower of London is today used to house the British Crown Jewels. Interestingly, it also served as a royal residence before it became a prison; in fact, it was built as part of the Norman conquest of England in the winter of 1066. Nowadays, there are reports of ghosts haunting the legendary structure, which all but adds to its already iconic status. Perhaps that’s why it’s widely regarded as one of the many must visit places in Great Britain.
