10 Most Magnificent Lakes In North America You Must Visit

4. Crater Lake, Oregon

This is a caldera lake, which means that it’s actually the collapsed peak of a volcano. Crater Lake is famous for its striking blue color and astounding depth; measuring 592 meters (1,943 feet) down, it is the deepest lake in the United States and either the seventh or ninth deepest in the world (depending on whether one is measuring average or maximum depth).

This particular spot in North America is also famous for the “Old Man of the Lake,” a full-sized tree that has been bobbing vertically in the lake for over a century.
