Mitre Peak, one of the most photographed and iconic peaks in South Island of New Zealand are not just dramatic but simply astounding. Famous for its spectacular setting close to Milford Sound, Mitre Peak has been named after the mitre headwear of Christian bishops due to its distinctive shape.

Often considered a fjord, the mountain with a vertical rise of 1,690 m from the water of the Milford Sound creates a spell-binding view. Although the peak appears as a single point, it is actually a group of five close nested peaks.
