3. The fortified city of Naarden

Around 20km east of Amsterdam lies the beautiful fortified city of Naarden. Extremely well-preserved and famous for its star-shaped fortification, Naarden today is the only fortification in Europe that has unique double walls and moats. The 12 pointed stars and arrowhead at each tip lend this charming small town in Holland a unique look and act as the primary attraction for the visitors.

The fortification was done in the 16th century after Spanish massacred the town. One of the most striking little towns in Holland, the walled town of Naarden also has a chic enclave of galleries, fine restaurants, and antique stores. Cycling around the town and countryside is the best way to explore this beautiful Dutch resort.
