10. The Dutch town of Giethoorn
Quaint and picturesque, also referred to as the Venice of the North, the Dutch town of Giethoorn is extraordinary by all means. First of all, this stunning town has no streets but only canals. The striking town located in the Dutch province of Overijssel is built on water and has a few parts of the land. There are 180 bridges here and even cows are moved in boats filled with hay.
If that doesn’t seem interesting enough to pack your bags to this picturesque little town, then open a special international edition of Monopoly (Yes, you got it right, the board game) and you will find Giethoorn at spot 21. The village of Giethoorn took it head on with 182 contenders across the globe to win a place on the board.
One of the top 10 charming small towns in Holland, Giethoorn achieved its current popularity after a Dutch comedy movie Fanfare (1958) was shot here.
