3. Etna, Italy
Unlike the upper mentioned volcanoes, Etna is not so fearful, but it is worth visiting! The colossus of 3,350 height and a corresponding reputation, Etna awaits anyone who dares to climb it, as it can be traversed on foot from its base to the crater along the numerous safe trails set by guides and local authorities.
However, Etna is erupting relatively frequently, but the eruptions and the lava flow are not destructive and are considered of moderate intensity.
Etna is the source of a multitude of myths. Thus, it is believed that the legendary Cyclops had a smithery there, where they were smithing Zeus’s arrows, and under the Etna the ancients placed also the Tartarus, where damned souls were going after death.
