5. Dunguaire Castle
Taking 5th place on this guide of amazing castles in Ireland is Dunguaire Castle. It’s located on the southeastern shore of Galway Bay, and was built in the 16th century by the O’Hynes clan. During the 20th century a notable literary person, Oliver St. John Gogarty, restored it and it later became a meeting place for other noted authors as well, such as William Butler Yates and George Bernard Shaw. These days, Dunguaire Castle is open to the public year-round, and in the summer months there is additional fun to be had, such as lavish banquets and other local entertainment.
