8. Borobudur, Indonesia

Located at Java in Indonesia Borobudur is the famous three-tiered Mahayana Buddhist temple with a pyramidal base. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Borobudur is also regarded as the largest Buddhist temple in the world. A fine example of Javanese Buddhist architecture, the temple was built in the 9th century.
