4. Huacachina, Peru
It doesn’t get much more interesting when thinking about best places to visit in South America than a real-life oasis right smack in the middle of a desert. And luckily for millions of dreamers around the world, Huacachina is just that. Built around a lake by some Peruvians with pretty awesome foresight back in the 1930s, this oasis today attracts visitors by the bucket loads.
And it gets better – there’s a legend about a mermaid that supposedly inhabits the lake. Now, that’s all fine and dandy, but if you’re more of a practical kind of person, we figure you’ll appreciate the awesome sand buggying a bit more than fairytales…unless your kids are coming along, as well.

Perfect list, I would love to follow every inch of it. I´m a wanderer myself and I could put quite a few check marks to some from these list and still willing to see more and more. So happy travelling to all of us!
