6. San Pedro de Atacama, Chile
What is today a well-known tourist gem of a beautiful, yet unassuming and mysterious land that is Chile wasn’t always so famous. Many people aren’t aware it used to be a cattle-transporting stop. The major appeal has mostly to do with the Valle de Luna, or Moon Valley tour. It’s typically organized at sunset, specifically so visitors can witness the metamorphosis of the desert as it becomes a prime stargazing location.
Undoubtedly one of the most amazing places to visit in South America, it would be wrong to assume that sand and jaw-dropping landscapes are all it has to offer. Salt mines, valleys, caves, canyons and craters that dot the area all have a way of making even accidental visitors want to relocate to the charming town permanently.

Perfect list, I would love to follow every inch of it. I´m a wanderer myself and I could put quite a few check marks to some from these list and still willing to see more and more. So happy travelling to all of us!
