10 Best Places To Visit In Peru

5. Colca Canyon

Do you happen to be a fan of the Grand Canyon? Yes? That’s cool; we bet you’re impressed with its depth or something. Yeah, see – Peru’s Colca Canyon happens to be twice as deep. Formed as a result of a seismic fault between two volcanoes, it reaches a depth of 3,400 meters, where a winding river can be found.

About a four-hour drive from Arequipa, the entire canyon area has been inhabited by various peoples for thousands of years. Most notably, they included the Cabana, Collagua and at one point, the Incas. Still in use today, the stone terracing along the canyon walls dates back to 800 AD.
