10. The Nazca Desert
Famous for the legendary Nazca Lines, this strip of dry sand can be found on a high arid plateau along the northern Pacific coast. The iconic lines form figures ranging from human shapes, lizards, monkeys and spiders to simple lines in this vast section of barren land created between 200 BC and 700 AD.
Easily found between the towns of Palpa and Nazca, the desert is regularly listed among the top tourist attractions in Peru. There are scheduled round flights in a Cessna departing from Nazca to view the lines, which have been kept uncovered throughout the ages thanks to the stable, windless and dry climate of this unique region of Peru.
