2. Trujillo
With a home in northwestern Peru, Trujillo’s Pacific Coast vicinity makes it a popular tourist attraction by all standards. A moderately large city founded back in 1534, it was purposefully established among 4 Chimu settlements; this was done by the Spanish specifically so they could have the Chimu people ally with them against the Incas.
The beach resort of Huanchaco, as well as the legendary pre-Columbian site of Chan Chan, are both close to Trujillo, which is consistently ranked as one of the best places in Peru for history buffs, nature lovers and luxury seekers alike.
