10. The Canals of Venice
Speaking of Venice, you probably already know that a gondola ride through its canals is a centuries-long tradition of this staple of tourism in Italy. In many ways, the canals have long been the streets of this city of islands. Buildings that are so old they have remained unchanged for hundreds of years line the canals, every single one of which increases the romance factor of this legendary place. Although, a rise in sea levels is causing more frequent flooding in Venice, which is why the city is sinking. Efforts are under way to prevent that, but you should book a trip before it’s too late, just in case.
