4. La Rioja, Spain
Spain’s wine capital, La Rioja is indeed one of the best wine regions that you must visit. Extremely picturesque with green vineyards, this autonomous community has been harvesting wine since the ancient times of the Phoenicians and the Celtiberians. There are three main wine regions of La Rioja namely Rioja Alavesa, Rioja Alta and Rioja Baja. Each of the three has a distinct flavor of Rioja wine. Mostly spread along the Ebro valley between the towns of Alfaro and Haro, La Rioja wine region’s vast blue skies and ochre earth are more Mediterranean in visuals than the Basque greens further north. Grape pleasures combined with lively towns and quiet churches make La Rioja one of the most loved and frequented wine regions in Spain.
