10 Reasons Why You Should Visit Malta

2. St John’s Co-Cathedral

Built between 1573 and 1578, St John’s co-cathedral located in the capital city Valletta is undoubtedly Malta’s most striking church with exquisite baroque interiors. Regarded as one of the greatest cathedrals in the world, one of the most impressive examples of high Baroque architecture in Europe, St John’s co-cathedral was damaged by aerial bombardment during World War II, however, the interiors and its contents were safe as these were transferred to another location. A painting of John the Baptist by Caravaggio is one of the cathedral’s most prized possessions.
