One of the most famous and holy Buddhist temples around the world, Mahabodhi temple is located at the same premise in India where Prince Gautama attained the enlightenment under the Bodhi Tree. Surrounded on all four sides by stone railings approximately two meters high, Mahabodhi Temple is considered as one of the most imposing structures built entirely with bricks during Gupta period. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Mahabodhi Vihar was built by Emperor Ashoka in around 260 BC.
